No matter where she is, one Stars fan will post about her favorite NHL team on X.
Meet 29-year-old Taylor Newby. Better known as @dallasstarstay on X. The Fort Worth native has over 5,700 followers on X.
Newby originally had a different username for a site she worked for. She changed ended up changing her username for her favorite hockey team.
“I wanted people to know this is hockey takes only,” Newby said. “So, I put @dallasstarstay together and here we are.”
Newby’s ex-husband got her into hockey; Newby’s ex-husband played hockey.
“We got divorced and I started going to games alone,” Newby said. “Then, I found Twitter. And I realized I can make friends, like, hockey friends, and here I am.”
Newby and her friend on X @teejaaymc are the hosts of the podcast “Two Girls, One Stanley Cup.” The two try to post an episode once a week as people in popular hockey countries have listened from Canada, Sweden and Finland. Newby explained the reason why the podcast name is a parody to a video name that a lot of people wouldn’t recommend for others to watch.
“We originally were wanting to do ‘Two Girls, One Puck,'” Newby said. “But, I couldn’t stop saying ‘cup,’ because of that video.”
Stars forward Tyler Seguin and Newby know each other and have a bond. The two have a tradition as Newby calls it “booty bumps.” Seguin will jump into the boards during pre-game warmups during Stars games where Newby is watching Stars warmups by the boards.
“He asked me if I tweet mean things about him and I was like ‘no absolutely not.’” Newby said. “It’s become our little thing.”
Newby attended the Stars season opener on Oct. 12, 2023, at American Airlines Center and talked about the team’s expectations and her feelings toward the team for the 2023-24 season.
“I think winning the division is number one,” Newby said. “I’m really looking forward to the trade deadline. I think what we do there with the defense will really set the tone. Anything less than the Western Conference Final isn’t going to be good for me.”
Newby does deal with other fans not liking her on X as part of the world with social media.
““You just have to take it in stride,” Newby said. “I love to run my mouth especially when it comes to sports. You gotta just brush it off. No one on the internet can hurt my feelings.”
