After playing one game in the 2021-22 season, Ty Dellandrea showed promise during the 2022-23 season and can grow his role.
Dellandrea was drafted 13th overall by the Dallas Stars in the 2018 NHL Draft. Dellandrea played 26 games in the 56-game season in 2020-21 and one game in the 2021-22 season with Rick Bowness as Stars head coach.
With Pete DeBoer in his first year as Stars head coach, Dellandrea earned his trust. He played in all 82 games last season. He recorded 9 goals, 19 assists and had a +9 rating.
Two of Dellandrea’s goals were game winners on the road in November against the Coyotes on Nov. 3 and against the Blues on Nov. 28.
Dellandrea also recorded 3 shorthanded points and won 50.75% of his faceoffs. He scored a goal in each game against the Devils who finished with the third best record in the NHL.
During the 2022-23 season, DeBoer was consistent with Dellandrea’s line mates. He spent time playing next with Tyler Seguin and Mason Marchment. Later, he would play besides captain Jamie Benn and rookie Wyatt Johnston.

Dellandrea’s confidence was high after Game 5 of the 2023 Western Conference Finals. After recording one goal in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs and not playing in three Playoff games, Dellandrea scored back-to-back goals against the Golden Knights in the third period.

Dellandrea broke the 2-2 tie in the third with 9:25 remaining in regulation and scored again 1:37 later to make it 4-2 Dallas. Dellandrea’s two goals helped force a game 6 before Dallas lost the series.
In the 2022-23 regular season, Dellandrea’s TOI average was 14:12. In the 2023 Playoffs, he saw more time averaging 15:18 TOI.
Dellandrea was a restricted free agent and re-signed a one-year deal for $900,000. He will be a restricted free agent again after 2024.
Dellandrea’s 28 points finished ninth best on Dallas’ roster last season. With a new contract, the 23-year-old could see a bigger role in Dallas this season.
