A gameday experience at American Airlines Center is full of traditions for the Dallas Stars and their fans.
It all starts with the Stars coming out of its locker room and skating through a star that’s lowered to the ice and the team coming out to its team fight song “Puck Off” by Dallas-Fort Worth heavy metal band Pantera.
Pantera created the song in 1999 the year the Stars won their first Stanley Cup. “DALLAS.” “STARS.” Short, simple and something to pump up a fan. Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul of Pantera were huge fans of the team and hung out with a few Stars players.
After starting lineups are announced, it’s time for the Star-Spangled Banner where Stars fans yell a certain word.
Whose broad stripes and bright “STARS.”
It’s not just one time.
O, say does that “STAR”-spangled.
Puck drop occurs. After the first stoppage of play, Stars PA announcer Jeff K will announce who the starting goaltenders are the game. The visiting teams’ goaltender is shown on the jumbotron first and Stars fans boo. Next, the Stars goaltender is shown and Stars fans cheer.
After each Dallas goal, the fight song is played and fans get to yell “Dallas Stars.” Puck Off makes its appearance again. The Stars will also blast the goal horn for the number of goals scored in the game too.
Jeff K will get the fans involved after each time the Stars get a powerplay as the fans finish his sentence. “Your Dallas Stars are on the POWERPLAY.” The song “Knights of Cydonia” by Muse will be played afterward.
In hockey, part of the game is the visiting team scoring. Whenever the road team scores at American Airlines Center, the “Darkness music,” is played. The team played the darkness music at old Reunion Arena.
After the music plays, the puck is dropped and Jeff K will announce who scored the goal for the other team. Stars fans have a saying on what they think about the announcement.
People enjoy a sing along and the Stars play iconic country song “Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks in the third period for fans to sing. Fans will be seen on the jumbotron singing along.
After a Stars win, “The House Is Rockin’” by Dallas born music artist Stevie Ray Vaughn is played. The tradition goes back to the Reunion Arena days too.
The Stars’ gameday experience brings people together and it gets fans involved of all ages inside the AAC. According to Sports Business Journal, Dallas averaged 18,371 fans per game during the 2022-23 season. It ranked 10 for most fans by an NHL team per game.
With traditions that a Stars gameday brings, you will find a lot of different answers from Stars fans on what their favorite tradition of a gameday is.
