After slaying the dragon in the first round of the 2024 Playoffs, the Western Conference’s top seed meets an old division rival in round two.

The Dallas Stars host the Colorado Avalanche for Game 1 of the 2024 second round at American Airlines Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. CT.

On Sunday, the Stars clinched their first round series against the Golden Knights in Game 7 with a 2-1 win. Wyatt Johnston and Radek Faksa scored and Jake Oettinger made 22 saves. With Mason Marchment still not ready to go, Game 1 will have the same lineup as Game 7.

Johnston leads the Stars in the Playoffs with 4 goals and 7 points. Jason Robertson also has scored 3 goals in the Playoffs.

Against the Avalanche this regular season, the Stars went 1-2-1. The Avalanche enter this series on seven-day rest after defeating the Jets one week ago in Game 5. After losing 7-6 in Game 1, the Avalanche won the next four games.

Colorado’s big three of Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen and Cale Makar each recorded 2 goals and 7 assists in round one. Valeri Nichuskin is tied for most Playoff goals with 7 with Zach Hyman of the Oilers. Alexander Georgiev has a 3.03 GAA and .900 SV%.

Some of the Stars players struggled offensively against the Golden Knights. Joe Pavelski was pointless; Logan Stankoven and Tyler Seguin didn’t score one goal. Matt Duchene, Jamie Benn and Roope Hintz only scored once. Hintz’s goal was an empty-net goal in Game 4 against the Golden Knights.

In three games against Colorado this season, Seguin scored twice in each game.
