With a chance to close out the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Western Conference’s top seed couldn’t prevail to score.

The Vegas Golden Knights avoid elimination by defeating the Dallas Stars 2-0 at T-Mobile Arena in Game 6 behind an Adin Hill 23-save shutout. With Vegas winning, the series will head back to Dallas on Sunday for Game 7 at 6:30 p.m. CT.

Through the first two periods, defense and goaltending was so crucial. Chris Tanev blocked a Mark Stone shot on goal in the first period.

Early in the second period, Tyler Seguin was denied on a breakaway.

Ty Dellandrea was looking for his fourth career Playoff goal against Vegas, but Stone was there for the rescue for Vegas.

At 9:54 of the third period, Noah Hanifin broke the ice scoring his second Playoff goal of the series to give Vegas a 1-0 lead. Stone added an empty-net goal to put the game away. Jake Oettinger recorded 28 saves in the loss.

For the second consecutive season, the Stars will play a Game 7 at home. Last season, the Stars defeated the Kraken in the second round 2-1 in Game 7 at home. In the Kraken win, Oettinger made 22 saves. Stars head coach Pete DeBoer has a 7-0 record in Game 7s.

Vegas has played in two Game 7s in franchise history. The last was in the second round of the 2020 Playoffs when they defeated the Canucks 3-0.

In the series, Joe Pavelski remains pointless; Seguin and Logan Stankoven have yet to score a goal.
