For the Western Conference’s top seed, they will avoid trailing 2-0 for the second consecutive series.
The Dallas Stars host the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 2 of the first round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs at American Airlines Center with Vegas leading the series 1-0. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. CT.
Monday’s 4-3 loss was the fifth consecutive Game 1 loss for the Stars. Last season, the Stars lost both games to open the Western Conference Final against the Golden Knights in Vegas. However, when the Stars had home ice advantage against the Wild in round one and against the Kraken in round two, they won Game 2 after losing Game 1 both times.
Game 1 started rough after Mark Stone scored 1:27 into the game on the powerplay. Ryan Suter had a goal disallowed after Vegas challenged for the play being offside. Jonathan Marchessault scored to make it 2-0 at 8:27 of the first period.
Jamie Benn and Tomas Hertl scored 1:44 apart. Thirty-eight seconds after Hertl’s goal to make it 3-1 Vegas, Jason Robertson scored to make it 3-2. Logan Stankoven recorded the lone assist on Robertson’s goal for his first career Playoff point.
Brayden McNabb scored the only second period goal at 1:06. With 8:14 left in regulation, Mason Marchment scored to cut the Vegas lead to 4-3, but no more goals were allowed by Logan Thompson who made 26 saves in the win. Jake Oettinger allowed four goals on 15 shots on goal. Oettinger recorded the secondary assist on Marchment’s goal for his first career Playoff point.
Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifin each recorded two assists. Vegas outhit Dallas 55-31.
