After watching the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first two nights, it’s time for the only NHL team in the Lone Star State to begin the journey to a second Stanley Cup.
The Dallas Stars host the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 1 of the 2024 first round at American Airlines Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. CT. Heading into the first round series, there might be some foreshadowing for Dallas.
Last season, Dallas won all three meetings against Vegas in the regular season, but fell in the Western Conference Final in six games when the two teams played each other. This season, Dallas played Vegas three times and lost all three meetings. The roles are reversed this season for the Western Conference Final rematch.
The Stars ended the regular season on a high note clinching the Central Division and top seed in the Western Conference for the first time since 2016 with 113 points. The Stars won 17 of their final 21 games to close out the season.
Jason Robertson led the Stars in points for the second consecutive season with 80 points (29G, 51A). At 20 years old, Wyatt Johnston led the Stars with 32 goals. Dallas had eight 20-goal scorers in the regular season. Since March, Jake Oettinger has been hot in goal:
For Vegas, Jonathan Marchessault led the team with 42 goals and 69 points. Jack Eichel led the team with 37 assists. Goaltender Logan Thompson had a 2.70 GAA and Adin Hill each had a 2.71 GAA.
It is the third time since 2020 the Stars and Golden Knights will play in the Playoffs.
