In the Stars’ final road game of the 2023-24 season, the Stars earned their biggest road win of the season.
The Dallas Stars defeated the Colorado Avalanche 7-4 at Ball Arena. With the win, the Stars improved to 49-20-9 and finished with a 26-10-5 road record.
Dallas entered its game against Colorado 0-2-1 on the season and a 3-point Central Division. With the win, Dallas now has a 5-point lead in the Central Division and the top seed in the Western Conference.
After the Avalanche jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, Dallas scored twice before the first period with goals from Matt Duchene and Jamie Benn. Jake Oettinger, who made 34 saves, had his impressive shutout streak end:
Artturi Lehkonen tied the game at two at 4:38 of the second period. Afterhis goal, Dallas scored three times in a span of 5:45. Tyler Seguin scored after missing the previous game against Chicago and Roope Hintz became the second Star this season to score 30 goals. Mason Marchment’s goal to make it 5-2 would be the game winner.
In the third period, Johnathan Drouin scored to make it 5-4 with 9:45 remaining. After Drouin’s goal, Wyatt Johnston scored the Stars leading 31st goal of the season and Seguin scored an empty netter.
Benn (1G, 2A), Johnston (1G, 2A) and Thomas Harley (3A) each recorded 3 points.
For the Avalanche (48-24-6), Alexander Georgiev made 30 saves and Nathan MacKinnon recorded 2 assists.
For the final four games this season, the Stars will play at home. The four-game homestand starts on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. CT against the Sabres. On Feb. 6, the Stars defeated the Sabres 2-1 in Buffalo behind Oettinger’s 47 saves.
