Stars Head to Denver for Crucial Central Division Meeting Against Avalanche

After a rough loss in the Windy City, the Stars head to the Mile High City for their final road game and back-to-back this season against a team chasing them for the Central Division.

The Dallas Stars (48-20-9) face the Colorado Avalanche (48-23-6) at Ball Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 9 p.m. CT. Entering tonight, the Stars lead the Central Division by 3 points ahead of the Avalanche. Both teams have played 77 games this season.

Yesterday, the Stars offense recorded 44 shots on goal against Blackhawks goaltender Petr Mrazek, but he made 42 saves. The Stars trailed 3-0 less than halfway through the second period. The Stars scored twice, but no comeback happened. The loss ending the Stars’ 8-game winning streak.

For the Avalanche, they have lost three of their last five games. In their last game on Thursday night against the Oilers, the Avalanche led 2-1 to losing 6-2.

Nathan MacKinnon is second in the NHL with 131 points (48G, 83A) and Miko Rantanen has 102 points (40G, 62A). Cale Makar is second among defensemen with 83 points (19G, 64A) this season.

Colorado has won all three games against Dallas this season. Colorado has scored at least five goals in each game. In the last meeting in Denver on Feb. 27, the Stars led 1-0 just 1 minute into the game, then Jake Oettinger allowed five unanswered goals.

Oettinger has been hot as he’s recorded back-to-back shutouts in his last two starts and has won his last six starts. With Wedgewood playing yesterday, Oettinger will get the start. Following Oettinger’s shutout on Wednesday against the Oilers, former Hall of Fame goaltender Henrik Lundqvist told Oettinger he was a “big fan of his game.”
