In two nights, the Stars went from allowing five unanswered goals on Tuesday night, to earning a big win at home against the Central Division leader.
The Dallas Stars defeated the Winnipeg Jets 4-1 at American Airlines Center. With the win, the Stars improved to 36-17-9 and took back the Central Division lead by two points. The Stars have beaten the Jets for the third time in three games this season. All three wins have been in regulation.
On Tuesday night in Denver, Jake Oettinger allowed five unanswered goals to the Avalanche in the Stars’ 5-1 loss. Tonight against the Jets, Oettinger was better with stopping 25-of-26 Jets shots on goal. In two games started against the Jets this season, Oettinger has allowed one goal on 53 shots on goal.
Dallas scored three goals in the first period to start the game. Jason Robertson scored less than seven minutes into the game for a 1-0 Dallas lead. Robertson scored his 20th goal of the season and his ninth goal against the Jets in 10 games played.
Joe Pavelski and Logan Stankoven scored the other first period Dallas goals. Stankoven has scored his third goal in four NHL games played and has scored for Dallas in three consecutive games. Stankoven made Stars history with his goal to make it 3-0.
Roope Hintz scored an empty-net goal to make it 4-1 Stars to end his eight-game goal drought. Both Hintz and Pavelski recorded one goal and an assist each.
For the Jets (37-16-5), Vladislav Namestnikov scored the lone goal for the Jets on the powerplay in the second period. Connor Hellebuyck made 32 saves.
The Stars will return to action Saturday night as they host the San Jose Sharks. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT. It’s the first meeting this season between the Stars and Sharks.
