Thursday night saw more struggles for the Stars in the third game of their four-game road trip.
The Ottawa Senators defeated the Dallas Stars 4-1 at Canadian Tire Centre. With the loss, the Stars fell to 34-16-8 and have lost a season-high four consecutive games.
After Joe Pavelski tied the game at one with under 10 seconds to go in the first period, the second period turned ugly for Dallas. When Thomas Chabot scored to make it 3-1 Senators at 8:56 in the second period, Stars head coach Pete DeBoer pulled goaltender Jake Oettinger for Scott Wedgewood. Oettinger allowed three goals on 11 shots on goal.
In both games against Ottawa this season, Wedgewood came in goal in relief. Wedgewood allowed in one goal on the powerplay by Shane Pinto with under 17 seconds remaining. In relief, Wedgewood made 18 saves on 19 shots on goal by Ottawa.
For Ottawa (24-27-3), they allowed 15 shots on goal by Dallas. Goaltender Anton Forsberg made 14 saves and earned his 10th win of the season. Josh Norris scored Ottawa’s first two goals. Ottawa also avoids getting swept in the regular season by Dallas for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
The Stars still remain in first place in the Central Division with 76 points. The Avalanche lost 2-1 in overtime to the Red Wings and have 75 points. Each team has played 58 games this season.
On Saturday, the Stars will conclude their four-game road trip with a trip to the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina, against the Carolina Hurricanes. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT. The Hurricanes won 1-0 tonight at home against the Panthers behind a Pyotr Kochetkov 44-save shutout. Sebastian Aho scored the only goal with 19 seconds left for the Hurricanes.
