Duchene’s Three-Point Game Not Enough as Stars Fall in OT Against Oilers

After nine goals on Thursday, Dallas would score a third of the amount in its Saturday afternoon loss.

The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Dallas Stars 4-3 in overtime at American Airlines Center. With the loss, the Stars fell to 34-14-7, but earned a point in the standings and now have 75 points.

After a scoreless first period, the teams combined for six goals in the second period. Mason Marchment scored the first goal of the game 68 seconds into the second period. Even Bouchard tied the game for Edmonton 55 seconds later.

Thomas Harley and Corey Perry each traded goals less than five minutes later. At 18:42, Derek Ryan scored a shorthanded goal to give Edmonton a 3-2 lead. Twenty seconds later, Matt Duchene scored a powerplay goal to tie the game. Duchene scored or assisted on all three Dallas goals. Marchment and Harley each recorded one goal and an assist.

With neither team scoring in the third period, overtime was needed. The game ended quick in overtime.

Wyatt Johnston was called for a hooking penalty 23 seconds into overtime. Seven seconds later, Bouchard scored his second goal of the game in overtime for the win. Jake Oettinger recorded 20 saves 24 Edmonton shots on goal.

For Edmonton who improved to 32-18-1, Leon Draisaitl recorded two assists; Connor McDavid recorded one assist; Calvin Pickard recorded 24 saves on 27 Dallas shots on goal.

The Stars will be back in action on Monday as they start a four-game road trip against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden. Puck drop is scheduled for noon CT.
