Eleven different Stars players record a point; seven different Stars players record at least two points in a dominant win in the Music City.
With the moms in attendance again this time at Bridgestone Arena, the Dallas Stars defeated the Nashville Predators 9-2. With the win, the Stars improved to 34-14-6 splits their regular season series 2-2-0 against Nashville this season. Tonight’s game was the most goals the Stars scored in a game (eight goals scored three times) and the third seven-goal win (8-1 vs Lightning Dec. 2, 8-1 vs Blackhawks Dec. 31) this season.
Since losing to the Nashville on Jan. 12, Dallas has a 10-2-1 record in its last 13 games. Dallas earned its fourth win in five games after the All-Star break.
The first period was all Dallas. Sam Steel scored 35 seconds into the game. After Steel’s goal, two former Predators Matt Duchene and Craig Smith scored a goal each. Wyatt Johnston scored to make it 4-0 with 4:07 left in the first period. Duchene’s goal was his 20th of the season.
In the second period, Nashville replaced goaltender Jusse Saros for Kevin Lankinen after Saros allowed four goals on 18 shots in the first period. Dallas scored three goals and Nashville scored twice. Cole Smith’s goal to make it 5-1 broke the shutout 9:50 into the period. Tyler Seguin’s goal to make it 6-2 was his 20th goal of the season.
With Dallas up 7-2 to start the third period, Stars head coach Pete DeBoer replaced Jake Oettinger in goal for Scott Wedgewood. Oettinger finished recording 20 saves on 22 shots on goal faced.

Ty Dellandrea scored his second goal of the season 3:50 into the third. Five minutes later, Johnston scored his second goal of the game on the powerplay. Wedgewood stopped all seven shots on goal by the Predators. Dallas finished with a total of 41 shots on goal.
Steel recorded one goal and an assist; Mason Marchment and Ryan Suter each recorded two assists; Dellandrea and Seguin each recorded one goal and two assists; Duchene recorded two goals and an assist; Johnston recorded two goals and two assists leading.
On an injury note, Nils Lundkvist left the game after taking a hit along the boards by Nashville’s Jeremy Lauzon. Lundkvist played 1:34 of total ice time.
For the race for the Central Division title, the Avalanche fell to the tonight Lightning 6-3. The Stars now have a four-point lead on the Avalanche with one less game played.
The Stars will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host the Edmonton Oilers at American Airlines Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT. The Oilers fell tonight 6-3 against the Blues.
