Stars fall apart at home to close out season series vs Vegas

Period 1

If Dallas is good at nothing else, that’s an absolutely distressing defense. Chandler Stephenson, Zach Whitecloud, and Vegas Captain Mark Stone score within the first period. Not even an excellent Dadanov goal softens that blow—truly, death, taxes,, and blowing the first period like nobody’s business.

Score: VGK 3-1 DAL

Goals: C. Stephenson from B. Howden (1-0), Z. Whitecloud from W. Carrier (2-0), Dadonov from Benn (2-1), Stone from Barbashev (3-1)

Period 2

The second period was abysmal, and the shots on goal aren’t any better. Nicolas Roy gets the only goal of the middle frame. At this point, the Stars are falling apart like a poorly structured three-tier cake, with not enough support for Otter, and not a strong performance from Otter. It feels fatalistic, wanting to hope for a bounceback.

Score: 4 VGK – DAL 1

Goals: N. Roy from M. Stone (4-1)

Period 3

The final frame is when the House of Cards falls, painfully so. Pavel Dorofeyev scores two minutes in to cushion the Vegas lead, and the torrent of blocked shots from the Stars is almost like a drizzle in the Metroplex. It’s there, and something happens, but it doesn’t do enough to shift things.

Vegas gets one last goal from Paul Cotter, almost halfway through the period.

We host the Red Wings on Monday night, and maybe the tide will turn along with our attitude on the blue line.

Score: 6 VGK – DAL 1

Goals: P. Dorofeyev from W Karlsson (5-1), P. Cotter from B. McNabb (6-1)
