Stars fans have waited long enough for one Stars legend to get an honor outside of the American Airlines Center.
During the Dallas Stars vs New York Rangers game, the Stars announced they will commemorate a statue of Stars legend Mike Modano. The statue will be unveiled on March 16, 2024, when the Stars host the Los Angeles Kings.
In his 20 combined years with the Minnesota North Stars and Dallas Stars franchises, Modano played in 1,459 games, scored 557 goals and recorded 802 assists. Modano finished his career with the most points by an American born player with 1,374 points. He helped bring home Dallas’ first Stanley Cup in 1999 and served as Stars captain for two seasons.
In 2014, Modano was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and had his number 9 retired by the Dallas Stars. Now, he will be joining Dirk Nowitzki with a statue outside of the AAC.
Dirk Nowitzki played 21 seasons with the Dallas Mavericks and had a statue unveiled for him outside of the AAC on Dec. 25, 2022. Now, it’s time for Modano to have his statue.
Two Dallas sports legends with statues in cities they will call home. Time will tell how many more Dallas sports legends will get statues of their respected stadiums.
