Stars hold steady and victorious over Blue Jackets

Period 1

Columbus has Elvis in net, we have Oettinger in net.

Not even a full 30 seconds and the future of our blue line hits one home for Dallas. We also go onto the penalty kill not too long after. So far, I definitely can appreciate the fast start and the urgency we desperately needed. We just have to hold it down and not let up regardless of how many goals we get.

Things get ballistic with 13 minutes left on the clock. It feels like a different type of give-and-take than what we’ve seen up to this point this season. Then we get onto our power play, Universe help us all. I do definitely can get behind PP2 with Nils and Wyatt. We hold it steady; there are no goals for either side as we come back to full strength.

Six minutes left and we’re back onto the power play for about 20 seconds. Matt Duchene, I ask you please avoid the box for my personal sanity.

In short, this period is filled with “if you blink, you miss it” moments, an even power play chance for each team and what feels like chaos.

Score: CBJ 2 – DAL 1

Goals: Thomas Harley, with an assist from Jason Robertson., Dmitri Voronkov with an assist from Cole Sillinger, Damon Severson with an assist from Adam Fantilli.

Period 2

Puck possession is something we seem to be trying to improve, even with the deflections from Merzlinkins making so many almost goals. Tons of icing as well, more so from the Jackets. Then, here comes Roope Hintz, tying us up and not letting up. The idea of “all gas, no breaks” seems to be the mantra right off the bat for this period.

Also, I hate off sides, alas.

Five minutes left on the clock, and the tension is evident now. A multitude of blocked shots, face-off wins and still holding even as we move into the third period. The goal for third period is maintaining the control and not letting up.

Score: CBJ 2 – DAL 2

Goals: Roope Hintz with an assist from Jason Robertson and Nils Lundkvist,

Period 3

Well, we love a shocking open. Matt Duchene scores off a face-off and gives us the lead. Otter gives us an amazing save off his left side and the tension starts to unwind, replaced by impending pressure to hold steady and keep the lead.

Got a power play, held steady and was blocked by Merzlinkins. Until about 7:21 left on the clock and Dadonov gives us an insurance goal! Then Wyatt Johnston comes in with under four minutes to spare and gives us an empty netter goal.

Score: CBJ 3 – DAL 5

Goals: Matt Duchene with an assist from Tyler Seguin, Evgenii Dadonov with an assist from Wyatt Johnston, Wyatt Johnston with an assist from Evgenii Dadonov, Sean Kuraly with an Ivan Provorov assist.
