Stars Don’t Plan on Extending Evgenii Dadonov Right Now; it’s the Correct Move for Now

(Tom Fox/Dallas Morning News)

Dallas Stars forward Evgenii Dadonov is a respected veteran, and has one of the best veteran voices in the locker room. But, the 2024-25 season can be the beginning of uncertainty surrounding Dadonov, and whether or not he will continue to wear Victory Green.

According to Pro Hockey Rumors, there are no talks right now with the Stars giving Dadonov an extension. Dadonov is entering the final year of his contract at $2.25 million.

Dadonov will turn 36 years old in March. With Dadonov aging, it puts Dallas in a tough position to give him a new contract. Dadonov has played a good role to help the Stars reach the past two Western Conference Finals. But, if Dadonov wants to remain in Dallas, he will need an impressive season.

Last season, Dadonov recorded 23 points (12G, 11A), but missed 31 games. Had Dadonov not got injured, he would’ve had a chance to record 50 points. Dadonov recorded seven points (3G, 4A) in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Stars could keep him for a cheap price again, but they could also trade him. If Dadonov plays well, Dallas will have to look into keeping him. If Dadonov plays under the radar, Dallas could trade him at the deadline, or simply not re-sign him.

Dadonov will have pressure on himself to earn a new contract with the Stars. Veteran leadership is always important to have, and Dadonov brings it with his experience.
