For 2007 Stanley Cup winner Travis Moen, the Dallas Stars would be the final team he would play for in his 12-year NHL career.
The Stewart Valley, Saskatchewan, native began his NHL career with the Blackhawks in the 2003-04 season. After the 2004-05 NHL lockout, Moen began playing with the Ducks.
With Moen, the Ducks made back-to-back Western Conference Finals in 2006 and 2007. After losing to the Oilers in 2006, 2007 would be special for Moen as he was part of the 2007 Ducks team to win the Stanley Cup against the Senators. Moen recorded 12 points (7G, 5A) in the 2007 Playoffs.
After being eliminated in the first round of the 2008 Playoffs with the Ducks and 2009 with the Sharks, Moen joined the Canadiens. In his first year in Montreal, Moen and the eighth seed Canadiens reached the 2010 Eastern Conference Finals before losing to the Flyers in five games. Playing in all 19 Playoff games, Moen recorded only 3 points (2G, 1A) in the 2010 Playoffs for Montreal.
In 2011, 2013 and 2014, Moen and the Canadiens would be eliminated in the first round of the Playoffs. In November 2014, Moen’s tenure with the Canadiens would end as he was traded to the Stars.
In a one-for-one trade, the Stars traded defenseman Sergei Gonchar in exchange for Moen. At the time of the trade, Moen recorded no points in 10 games for Montreal.
Moen concluded the 2014-15 regular season with Dallas recording 9 points (3G, 6A) in 34 games. After making the Playoffs in 2014, Dallas missed the Playoffs in 2015.
In the 2015-16 season, Dallas had an incredible regular season leading the Western Conference with 109 points, but the same couldn’t be said for Moen. In 23 games, Moen recorded only 2 assists in 23 games.
In the 2016 Playoffs, Moen didn’t play a game until Game 6 of the first round against the Wild. The Stars eliminated the Wild in Game 6 and met the Blues in the second round. Moen played in the first five games of the series. In Game 4 and Game 5, Moen played 8 shifts in each game.
The Stars were eliminated at home in Game 7. In six games played in the 2016 Playoffs, Moen recorded no points. In November 2016, Moen retired from the NHL. In his career, Moen recorded 136 points (59G, 77A) in 747 games played. In Dallas, Moen recorded 11 points (3G, 8A) in 57 games played.
