After Tuesday night’s collapse, the Western Conference’s top will have to get ready to avoid another 2-0 series deficit.
The Dallas Stars host the Colorado Avalanche in Game 2 of the 2024 second round at American Airlines Center trailing the series 1-0. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. CT.
In the first period of Game 1, the Stars scored three goals from Ryan Suter, Wyatt Johnston and Jamie Benn to take a 3-0 lead going into the first intermission. After taking a 3-0 lead, it all fell apart.
Valeri Nichushkin and Cale Makar each scored a powerplay goal in the second period to cut the Dallas lead to 3-2 into the second intermission. Just 39 seconds into the third period, Nathan MacKinnon scored to tie the game. In the second and third period, Dallas recorded 7 shots on goal.
After Alexander Georgiev made 6 saves against Dallas in overtime, Miles Wood scored the overtime winner at 11:03 to complete Colorado’s comeback to win the game 4-3. Tuesday marked the six straight Game 1 loss for the Stars.
Following the Game 1 loss, head coach Pete DeBoer pointed to one area that the Stars need improvement in.
“Some of our scoring has to step up,” DeBoer said. “You know, we’ve been waiting for, you know a series plus a game now for some of that.”
Matt Duchene and Roope Hintz each have one goal in the 2024 Playoffs. Hintz’s goal was an empty netter. Joe Pavelski recorded his first point of the Playoffs on Tuesday with an assist. Tyler Seguin and Logan Stankoven each haven’t scored in the Playoffs.
