After dropping the first two games of the first round against the defending Stanley Cup champions, not many would’ve predicted the Western Conference’s top seed would have a chance to clinch the series three games later. Tonight, the series can end.

The Dallas Stars travel to T-Mobile Arena with a 3-2 series lead to take on the Vegas Golden Knights for Game 6 of the 2024 first round. Puck drop is scheduled for 9 p.m. CT.

It’s simple for tonight. If the Stars win, they clinch the series and have a second round meeting with the Avalanche. If the Golden Knights win, the series goes to Game 7 in Dallas on Sunday.

After winning Game 3 and Game 4 in Vegas, the Stars returned home on Wednesday night. After Mark Stone scored a powerplay goal 4 minutes into the game, Evgenii Dadonov and Matt Duchene scored to give the Stars a 2-1 lead in a 3:02 span. Wyatt Johnston recorded an assist on both first period Stars goals.

William Carrier would tie the game at two before the first period ended. In a chippy second period, Jason Robertson scored the only goal of the second period with a powerplay goal for his third goal of the series. With under 2:45 remaining in the third period, Jake Oettinger made one of the biggest saves of his career denying Chandler Stephenson keep the score 3-2. The Stars would go on to win 3-2.

Vegas started Adin Hill for Logan Thompson in Game 5 after Thompson started the first four games of the series. In the Game 5 loss, Hill made 22 saves.

The Stars have a chance for the first time since 2020 to win a series after trailing 2-0 to winning the series 4-2. In 2020, the Stars defeated the Flames in the first round in six games.
