Stars Drop Game 2 Against Golden Knights at Home, Head to Vegas Trailing 2-0

It might be a different year, but it’s the same result for the Stars’ Playoff series after the first two games against the only NHL team from Nevada.

The Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Dallas Stars 3-1 in Game 2 of the 2024 first round to take a commanding 2-0 series lead. For the second straight time in the Playoffs, the Stars trail 2-0 against the Golden Knights.

The first period saw two big hits by Mason Marchment on Zach Whitecloud and Jason Robertson on Mark Stone.

Robertson scored his second goal goal of the Playoffs on the powerplay with 3:13 remaining in the first. Jonathan Marchessault scored his second goal of the Playoffs 1:22 following Robertson’s goal.

After the teams were tied at one after the first period, Noah Hanifin scored the only goal of the second period with 1:07 remaining in the second period. The third period saw one goal as Jack Eichel scored an empty-net goal to put Vegas up 3-1. Marchessault and Eichel each recorded one goal and an assist.

Logan Thompson made 20 saves in the win and Vegas outhit Dallas again 55-53. Jake Oettinger made 23 saves.

In the 2023 Playoffs, only one team came back down 2-0 in the series to win the series. The Devils trailed 2-0 to the Rangers after losing both games at home to winning Game 7 at home.

The last time Dallas won a series trailing 2-0 was in the first round of the 2020 Playoffs against the Flames. Dallas won four straight to win the series in six games.

Game 3 will be Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Vegas with puck drop scheduled for 9:30 p.m. CT.
