How Good Were the Stars Against the Coyotes?

It’s now official hockey fans. The Arizona Coyotes are moving to Salt Lake City, Utah. They will begin playing in the Beehive State starting in the 2024-25 season.

The Coyotes have called Arizona home since the 1996-97 season after relocating from Winnipeg. Now that it’s official, how did the Stars play against the Coyotes all-time?

Whether if it was the Phoenix Coyotes or Arizona Coyotes, the Stars have played the Coyotes 128 times. According to nhl.com, the Stars all-time record against the Coyotes is 73-40-8-7. The number eight represents the amount of ties as the NHL discontinued ties to start the 2005-06 season. Both teams never faced each other in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The most wins the Stars had in a season against the Coyotes was seven in the 2006-07 season when the Stars went 7-1-0. Since the 2013-14 season, the Stars went 25-5-1 against the Coyotes.

The Stars have swept the season series six times over the past nine seasons. The two teams didn’t play in the 2020-21 56-game shortened season. Current Stars head coach Pete DeBoer won all seven of his games against the Coyotes.

In the last meeting the teams played in Dallas, the Stars won 5-2 on March 20, 2024. Stars fans will remember Matt Duchene’s behind-the-back pass to set up Tyler Seguin scoring to extend the Stars lead to 3-1.

The last meeting between the two teams was on March 24, 2024, at Mullett Arena where the Stars won 4-2. Dallas scored two goals in the third period to win. Duchene scored the final Stars goal against the Coyotes

Utah has had two previous minor league hockey teams. The Salt Lake Golden Eagles from 1969-1994 and the Utah Grizzlies from 1995-2005. With hockey returning to Utah, hockey fans will wonder what the new name, color, logo and much more will be.
