Miro Plays the Hero Role in Stars’ Win in the Desert

Three games in the 2023-24 season resulted in the same result between the Stars and Coyotes.

The Dallas Stars defeated the Arizona Coyotes 4-2 at Mullett Arena in Tempe, Arizona. With the win, the Stars improved to 44-19-9 and sweep the regular season series against the Coyotes. The Stars also earned their fourth consecutive win.

After Jamie Benn and Clayton Keller each scored in the first period, Tyler Seguin scored the lone goal in the second period to give Dallas a 2-1 lead into the second intermission. Jake Oettinger made a big save on Dylan Guenther to keep the game at 2-1.

At 7:26 of the third period, Nick Bjugstad scored for the Coyotes to tie the game at two. With under 5 and a half minutes to play in regulation, Miro Heiskanen scored to give Dallas a 3-2 lead. It was Heiskanen’s first goal since Feb. 20 against the Rangers.

Matt Duchene added an empty-net goal to put the game on ice with 1:30 remaining. Both Duchene and Seguin each recorded one goal and two assists. Oettinger made 26 saves on 28 Arizona shots on goal. Benn’s goal marked the fourth consecutive game with a goal.

For the Coyotes (29-37-5), Connor Ingram made 31 saves.

With the Avalanche coming back from trailing 4-0 against the Penguins and winning 5-4 in overtime, the Stars are in second place in the Central Division with 97 points behind the Avalanche. The Jets are in third place with 93 points after their 3-0 loss against the Capitals.

Dallas will continue its road trip on Tuesday night against the San Jose Sharks at the SAP Center with puck drop at 9:30 p.m. CT. In the last meeting on March 5 in San Jose, the Stars trailed 6-3 in the third period to win 7-6 in overtime. Wyatt Johnston recorded his first career hat trick in the win.
