Stars Fall in OT to Islanders in Long Island

In a quick turnaround from Newark, New Jersey, to Elmont, New York, the Stars couldn’t prevail to win their set of back-to-back games.

The New York Islanders defeated the Dallas Stars 3-2 in overtime at UBS Arena. With the loss, the Stars fell to 27-13-6.

After earning his 13th win of the season last night against the Devils, Scott Wedgewood got the start in goal for the second consecutive night for the Stars against New York’s Ilya Sorokin. Wedgewood made 24 saves against New York..

After trailing 1-0 after the first period, Dallas scored two goals in the second period from Jason Robertson and Nils Lundkvist to take a 2-1 lead to start the third period. Joe Pavelski assisted on both Dallas goals.

In the third period, Hudson Fasching scored the only goal of the period for the Islanders to tie the game at two. The Stars applied pressure on Sorokin through 60 minutes of the game; Sorokin made 41 saves on 43 shots through three periods.

Forty-one seconds into overtime, Bo Horvat scored the overtime winner for New York on the first shot in overtime. Patrick Roy earned his first win as interim head coach of the Islanders. Yesterday, the Islanders fired Lane Lambert.

With the win, the Islanders improved to 20-15-11 and are now in fourth place in the Metropolitan Division with 51 points. Mathew Barzal and Noah Dobson each had two assists for the Islanders.

The Stars will conclude their four-game Eastern Conference road trip on Tuesday night at Little Caesars Arena against the Detroit Red Wings. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
