Stars Raise Hell in the Garden State with 6-2 Win Over Devils

After a 5-1 loss on Thursday, the Stars put together a strong performance Saturday night.

The Dallas Stars defeated the New Jersey Devils 6-2 at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. With the win, Dallas improved to 27-13-5.

After the Stars took a 1-0 lead on a powerplay goal by Joe Pavelski less than six minutes into the game, the Devils finished the first period with 14 shots on goal. Scott Wedgewood got the start in goal for Dallas and stopped 29-of-31 shots on goal by the Devils to earn his 13th win of the season. In three games started against New Jersey, Wedgewood is 3-0-0 and has stopped 91-of-94 shots on goal.

In the second period, the Stars added three goals in the period. Two from Roope Hintz including one shorthanded goal and one goal from Matt Duchene. Hintz became the first Star to reach 20 goals this season and has scored three shorthanded goals.

Dallas added two more goals in the third period from Craig Smith and Wyatt Johnston. New Jersey scored two goals in the the third period by Jesper Bratt and Tyler Toffoli to avoid getting shutout.

Johnston’s goal to make it 6-0 Stars could be in the discussion for goal of the 2023-24 season as he deked around Devils defenseman Luke Hughes and fired a shot past Devils goaltender Nico Daws.

Jason Robertson, Thomas Harley and Ryan Suter each recorded two assists in the game. After being inserted into the lineup with Mason Marchment dealing with an illness, Ty Dellandrea recorded an assist on Smith’s goal. Dellandrea didn’t play in the last seven Stars games.

The Stars have a quick turnaround as another road game is on the schedule in less than 24 hours. Dallas travels to UBS Arena to take on the New York Islanders. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT.
