Stars Score Three in the Third Period to Earn Win Against Kings

After 40 minutes of tight hockey, the Dallas Stars dominated the third period against the Los Angeles Kings.

In the first of three meetings this season, the Stars defeated the Kings 4-1 at American Airlines Center. With the win, Dallas improved to 26-12-5 on the season.

Dallas got out to a 2-0 lead in the first period from two goals from Roope Hintz and Evgenii Dadonov. Stars forward Wyatt Johnston was moved up to the top line with Hintz and Jason Robertson and made a quick impact getting the primary assist on Hintz’s goal.

The second period only saw one goal from Kings defenseman Drew Doughty on the powerplay 1:31 into the period. Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger in his second start since returning from injury made 31 saves.

In the third, Dallas put the game on ice scoring three goals in the period. Johnston scored the first goal of the period 5:49 into the period to make it 3-1. Sixty-three seconds later, Joe Pavelski scored to make it 4-1; both Pavelski and Hintz scored their 18th goals of the season.

Playing in his 600th career NHL game, Radek Faksa assisted on a shorthanded goal to Sam Steel who was playing in his 300th career NHL game to make it 5-1. All three goals scored in the third period by Dallas were scored less than halfway through the third period.

Four Stars players finished with two points. Dadonov, Hintz and Johnston each recorded a goal and an assist; Robertson recorded two assists.

Despite winning, both the Avalanche and Jets won tonight. The Avalanche won 7-4 over the Senators and the Jets won 4-2 over the Islanders. Dallas trails the Jets by five points and the Avalanche by four points in the Central Division and sit in third place.

The Stars will now begin a four-game Eastern road trip on Thursday against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
