Dallas get backhanded by Vegas in OT at home

Period 1

The first half of this period is uneventful but useful. Evaluating the patterns presented here, we see how the Stars’ PK isn’t bulletproof and how certain defensive pairings should stay broken up (Hakanpää-Lindell, we’re all staring at y’all).

Michael Amadio does hit one past Otter on the power play to get them on the board.

Score: 0 DAL-VGK 1

Goals: Amadio from N. Roy (VGK 1)

Period 2

We start on the power play with no conversion, but Vegas doesn’t advance either. Hill is certainly making us work for it tonight, and Otter is certainly matching the energy. I know I say this with every game I cover, but I swear this team owes Otter all the nice things post-game. Dinner, a back rub, extra cool-down time—just give it to him.

Nils to the box with five minutes left on the clock in the period, giving us a PK and Vegas another PP.

Four minutes later, and after sending Hill into a brief frenzy, Roope scores with assists from his long-time line partners Pavelski and Robertson. It turns out they transcend breaking up and being shuffled around.

Score: 1 DAL-VGK 1

Goals: Hintz from Pavelski and Robertson (DAL 1)

Period 3

18 minutes left on the clock and we get another PP opportunity. Miro and Robo do what they do best(their back and forth passing), but Hill is definitely deflecting everything in his path. Wyatt Johnston gets some tries in and Hill still blocks them off. We end the power play still tied and a little more frustrated. Jani goes back to the box for his second crime of the night (cross-checking), giving Vegas their third power play for tonight, and then Eichel takes an interference penalty, giving us 4 on 4 for a minute and a half. Nils also draws a penalty, putting us back on 4 vs 4, and then flipping to a Vegas power play.

Score: 1 DAL – VGK 1

Goals: no goals.

Overtime

Would it really be a Dallas-Vegas brawl without going past regulation? At this point, I’m painfully unsure anymore. Eichel does end this standoff by finally getting one past Otter. We walk away with a point and a lot of reflecting to do before Friday’s throw-down with Calgary here at home to cap off our home stand.

Score: 1 DAL – VGK 2

Goals: Eichel from Marchessault (VGK 2)
