After allowing six unanswered goals on Saturday and losing against Colorado 6-3, the Stars have another tough game against an NHL division leader.
The Central Division leading Dallas Stars (11-4-1) host the Metropolitan Division leading New York Rangers (12-2-1) tonight at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
Entering tonight, the Rangers have won four in a row and are 10-0-1 since losing to the Predators on Oct. 19. New York has been winning despite defenseman Adam Fox being on IR since Nov. 3.
Seven different Rangers have at least 10 points on the season. Artemi Panarin leads the Rangers in points with 26, and assists with 16. Panarin and Chris Kreider are tied with the most goals on the team with 10 each.
Dallas has eight players with at least 10 points on the season. Joe Pavelski (7G, 8A) and Jason Robertson (5G, 10A) are tied with the most points on the Stars with 15 points each. Defenseman Thomas Harley is out tonight for Dallas.
New York has gotten strong goaltending this season with Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick. Shesterkin is 7-2-0 with a 2.44 GAA and a .912 SV%; Quick is 4-0-1 with a 1.98 GAA and a .928 SV% this season.
Scott Wedgewood will get his fifth start in goal tonight for the Stars. Wedgewood is 3-1-0 with a 3.02 GAA and .917 SV% as Jake Oettinger’s backup. Wedgewood has won two straight starts on the road in Canada against the Oilers and Jets. Against the Oilers, Wedgewood recorded 46 saves.
Both teams have strong offenses and goaltending. Dallas has lost its last three games against New York. Dallas also has lost its last three home games against New York with the last home win coming on March 6, 2019.
Tonight is also Hockey Fights Cancer Night at the AAC. Mystery puck sales will be sold inside the arena.
