Stars collapse against Avs to have four-game winning streak snapped

What once looked like a promising game for Dallas, turned into a disaster with Colorado getting some help former Dallas players.

In a Central Division showdown, the Colorado Avalanche rallied back from trailing 3-0, to scoring six unanswered goals and defeating the Dallas Stars 6-3 at American Airlines Center. With the win, the Avs snapped the Stars four-game winning streak.

Dallas entered tonight’s game in first place in the Central Division by three points ahead of Colorado.

After two first period goals by Dallas, Tyler Seguin scored his second goal of the game at 2:12 in the second period to make it 3-0 Stars. After Seguin’s goal, Colorado refused to quit.

Colorado scored two goals in the second period by Miles Wood and Ryan Johansen to trail 3-2 heading into the second intermission.

Ex-Star Valeri Nichushkin scored 4:19 into the third period to tie the game. Over 10 minutes later, the Stars were more than stunned.

Mikko Rantanen and ex-Star Andrew Cogliano scored two goals in 11 seconds to give Colorado a 5-3 lead. Ross Colton added an empty net goal to make it 6-3.

The Avalanche recorded seven shots in goal in the first period; the Avs recorded 31 combined shots the next two periods.

Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar became the fastest defenseman in NHL history to reach 200 assists. Ex-Star Joel Kiviranta making his return for the first time to Dallas, recorded an assist and a +2 rating.

Mason Marchment recorded two assists and Matt Duchene extending his point streak to five games for the Stars

Dallas will be back in action on its five-game homestand on Monday against the Metropolitan Division leading New York Rangers, who themselves completed a 3-2 comeback tonight in New Jersey against the Devils. Puck drop for Monday is at 7 p.m. CT.
