Period 1

Tonight is a battle of the hot streaks. Vancouver is coming in with a 10-1 win and Dallas with two 4-3 wins from Calgary and Edmonton. We have to focus on fast, steady starts out of the gate. Puck possession also has to improve across every period. 15 minutes left on the clock, nobody’s scored, Otter is pulled and both teams have 2 shots on goal before our first play happens. Demko makes some solid saves, and we’re momentarily on 4 on 4 with 39 seconds left on our power play. We hold them off and flip to the Canucks with the man advantage for another 1:30. 11 minutes left on the clock, still scoreless and another penalty kill happens with 7 minutes on the clock. At this point, we’re just doing a back and forth with the PK and PP, they go, we go, we shoot, it bounces off Demko.

Score: 0-0

Goals: No goals.

Period 2

We’re back, still scoreless. 18 minutes left on the clock and Esa gets a penalty for cross-checking. 15 minutes in and Pius Suter scores for the Canucks. We struggle with winning face-offs, and our offense look dazed. As for our penalties, when it rains it pours, because we can’t stop drawing them or being drawn against. We also start swinging, with Marchment taking two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct, served by Dadonov.

Score: VAN 2 – DAL 0

Goals: P. Suter from D. Joshua (1-0), Pettersson from F. Hironek (2-0)

Period 3

We start the final frame on a 2 goal deficit, a scattered team and a strong battle of the goalies. We end it in just the same. We go back home with a regulation loss.

Score:

Goals: VAN 2 – DAL 0
