As we are moving along in the 23-24 season, I figure that we can look at the 56 season (Yes, 56th season) and see how far along the organization has come.
- From 1967 to 1993, the North Stars only had 8 willing seasons out of 26 (.307). During that time, they went to the Stanley Cup final twice, losing to both. 1981 vs Islanders, and 1991 vs Penguins. During the 26 seasons, they only missed the playoffs 9 times including last year in Minnesota, where they went 36-38-10.
- In the 30 years since the move in 1993, Dallas has appeared in 18 playoff appearances, reaching the Stanley Cup Final 3 times, going 1-2.
- Stars has had 25 winning seasons in the 30 years of being in Dallas. Now you’re thinking “How is it that if they had 18 playoff appearance out of 25?” The biggest drawback from this is the gap between the 08-09 and the 12-13 seasons. Dallas was either at .500 or better and did not make the playoffs. I will tell you how hard it is to get there. This was also the era that the team was filing bankruptcy, and league took over until a new owner came.
- The 2007 NHL All-Star game was held at the American Airline Center; however, it was the only All-Star game in history that was held during the week. The game was on Wednesday, January 24, 2007.
- Ralph Strangis, as we all know as the voice of the Dallas Stars for 25 seasons, was originally not a play-by-play voice. He was selected to be Al Shaver’s color commentary during that time. When the team moved, Shaver stayed and retired, and they used others to do play-by-play. It wasn’t until 1995-96, Strangis took over play-by-play, and introduced Daryl “Razor” Reaugh, creating the dynamic duo of “Ralph and Razor.”
