In a wild game, “Captain America” called game for Dallas.
The Dallas Stars defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4 at American Airlines Center with Joe Pavelski scoring 2:13 into overtime to win the game for Dallas. The Stars have now won seven consecutive games against the Flyers and improve to 3-0-1 on the 2023-24 season.
With Stars backup goaltender Scott Wedgewood making his season debut, Dallas jumped out to an early 2-0 lead less than eight minutes into the game. The Flyers scored two goals before the first period ended to tie the game at 2.
After Jamie Benn’s goal with under nine and a half minutes left in regulation, the Flyers scored two shorthanded goals to tie the game in 47 seconds. Three of Philadelphia’s goals were scored shorthanded. According to Daryl “Razor” Reaugh who broadcasted the game for the Stars on Bally Sports Southwest, tonight was the first time in Stars franchise history they allowed three shorthanded goals in a game.
The Flyers (3-1-1), entered the game first place in the Metropolitan Division, and played as if they were a first place team. The Flyers recorded 40 shots on goal against Wedgewood. Forward Travis Konecny scored two goals for Philadelphia. The Flyers allowed 25 Dallas shots on goal with Samuel Ersson making his season debut. Both times the Flyers trailed by two goals (2-0, 4-2), they would tie the game back up.
Eight different Stars players recorded a point in the game. Benn and Pavelski recorded a goal and an assist each. Wyatt Johnston recorded a goal and two assists. Ryan Suter finished the game with an assist and +3 rating, the team’s best in the game. Wedgewood made 36 saves for the Stars.
Dallas has recorded 7-of-8 possible points in four games its played this season. The Stars have won both games at home this season.
The Stars will be back in action on the road at PPG Paints Arena against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday with puck drop at 6:30 p.m. CT.
